Down by the Liffey Gallery

Welcome to Down by the Liffey Gallery, Lincoln's very own award-winning community art space! Tucked away inside the beautiful, historic 1911 Coronation Library building, we serve as a vibrant creative hub that celebrates the incredible artistic talent thriving right here in Canterbury and the wider South Island.

Run entirely by a passionate committee of local volunteers, we believe that art should be accessible, inspiring, and a core part of community life.

  • Rotating Exhibitions: We completely refresh our gallery walls every four weeks! This means there is always something new, thought-provoking, and beautiful to see, featuring everything from paintings and sculptures to photography and textiles by both established and emerging artists.
  • The Gallery Gift Shop: Looking for a unique gift? We host a small retail space stocked with beautifully crafted local pottery, unique jewellery, handmade small gifts, and artist cards.
  • A Community Gateway: We love connecting people. Our gallery is a welcoming space where art lovers can chat with volunteers, meet exhibiting artists, and immerse themselves in Lincoln's cultural scene.
